Altar Society

Ministry Purpose & Description

Established in 1937, the purpose of the Altar Society is to maintain the sanctuary, altar linens and the priest’s vestments and to provide plants, flowers and other appointments as needed, for St. Lucy Church. It is comprised of parishioners dedicated to preparing and maintaining the sacred space surrounding the altar and tabernacle.

Meeting Frequency and Meeting Place

The meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 1:00pm in the Parish Activity Center. These meetings give our members the opportunity for spiritual growth and social gathering. We discuss issues related to the Altar Society and St. Lucy Church followed by refreshments.

A Christmas luncheon is held at the December meeting, an Anniversary luncheon takes place at the January meeting, and an End of Business Year luncheon takes place in May.

An annual fundraiser is held to support our activities.

Please Note:  The “Club Year” is from September through May.  No meetings are held in June, July or August.  However, our “church ministry” does not stop.  It continues for the entire year.

We typically request people to serve approximately four hours of church duty during one month of the year, and one hour to help prepare and serve refreshments at one meeting during the year.
