Safe Park Ministry

Ministry Purpose & Description

Established in 2016, the mission of this ministry is to use the parking lot behind St. Lucy’s as a safe place where our homeless sisters and brothers can park their cars overnight thus helping them to sleep without fear. There are several Safe Park groups in Santa Clara County. Once a month we have someone, or some organization/ministry, prepare dinner for our guests and we celebrate the meal with them. There are a couple of ways people can get involved: i) become part of our Safe Park Meal Team to help prepare and serve the monthly dinners or ii) become part of our Safe Park Welcome Team to spend time with our guests on your preferred evening from 8:15pm to 9:30pm.

Our volunteers take an on-line “Shield the Vulnerable” training course, and they are also provided on-the-job training by existing volunteers.

Please note that fingerprinting is required for this ministry.

Meeting Frequency and Meeting Place

The Safe Park Welcome Team volunteers spend time with our guests from 8:15pm to 9:30pm from Monday to Friday. The volunteers and guests have access to the entrance lobby of the Parish Activity Center. We usually have 2 volunteers on duty each evening.

The Safe Park Meal Team volunteers prepare dinner once a month, usually on Fridays, from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. Dinner is served in the Parish Activity Center. Our meal volunteers are usually scheduled a month or two in advance.
