St.
Lucy Parish has a catechetical program beginning in September through
May. This process seeks to open children/youth to the discovery of the
goodness and beauty of God and to help them experience this world within
the Catholic Christian community. Our goals are:
We welcome the
children and youth, baptized or not, to participate in the catechetical
process. We offer:
Early
Childhood Ages 4-5 on Sunday mornings during the 9:00 a.m. Mass
in the Day Care Center. Our pre-school program is experientially oriented.
We use "I Am Special" program which has a special curriculum for each
of the two age groups. Music, art, prayer and gesture are an integral
part of this program. Our pre-schoolers come to know our loving and
gracious God.
Grades
1-5 catechesis is offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 4:00 p.m.
- 5:15 p.m. This catechesis follows a sequential curriculum. We also
prepare the children for First Eucharist and Reconciliation. Throughout
the year the students gather for a variety of prayer experiences highlighting
the liturgical year.
Grades
6 & Junior High catechesis is offered on Sunday mornings from
10:00 a.m. to 11:15 am. The curriculum for Junior High covers a series
of real life mini courses.
Confirmation
catechesis is offered on Wednesdays 7:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Retreat days
are also part of the Confirmation program. Please contact
Nancy Pontier
at the Parish Office about Confirmation.
Rite of
Christian Initiation for Children is also part of the catechetical
program. This is a process by which we welcome young people ages 7-16
who have not been baptized or those who have been baptized but have
not had any formal catechesis.
Registration forms
for the next catechetical year are available at the office. For those already in our program,
these registration forms are mailed to you each year in July. If you are interested
or know someone who might be interested in what we have to offer, please
contact Janet
Ang at 379-5900.
Last, but not
least, all of our catechists are volunteers from many and varied forms
of life. They are people who have answered a call to minister to our children/youth
and for whom faith is important enough to share. We are always in need
of people to answer this call of teaching. Many of the catechists tell me
that through working with children their faith grows and their
relationship with God deepens.
